More fun in store for Harbury youngsters

A village pre-school celebrated the official opening of a brand new storage building for their toys and equipment, which has been funded by Warwickshire County Council.

Harbury Pre-School, which provides care and education for children aged from 2 years 9 months to 4 years and is based on the grounds of The Wight School, has been awarded £1,452 from the County Council’s Community Development Fund for the new store.

The funding was approved by the council’s Stratford-on-Avon Area Committee in November.

Councillor Bob Stevens, County Councillor for Harbury, officially opened the spacious new store building at a special open morning at the pre-school.

Councillor Bob Stevens said: "Harbury Pre-School is an integral part of the early years education for children in Harbury and the surrounding area.

"With such a dedicated and enthusiastic group of staff and volunteers, I am delighted to officially open this new storage facility, for which the grant is earmarked, which will enhance that experience and also add value to the facilities already provided at the pre-school”.

The new store means that children at the village pre-school will now have an improved outdoor classroom as this will increase the range of activities on offer.

Thanks to the extra space, staff at the pre-school have been able to buy a giant wooden construction set, which the children are said to be thrilled with.

Councillor George Atkinson, Chair of the county council’s Stratford-on-Avon Area Committee, said: "The Community Development Fund aims to help communities, especially in more disadvantaged areas of the county, tackle issues of local concern.

“Competition for grants from the Community Development Fund is always high, but Stratford-on-Avon Area Committee is delighted to grant financial support for this commendable project in Stratford district.”

There is still an opportunity for parents to register children to start at the pre-school in September 2008 and beyond.  For further information contact Jacqui Quinney, Chairperson on 01926 613386 or visit the pre-schools website at http://www.harburypre-school.org.uk.
