New complaints powers for councils
From 8 May, the procedure for handling complaints about councillors is changing.
Until now, this function has been carried out by the Standards Board for England. New powers mean that councils will be able to deal with any complaints that councillors have breached their Code of Conduct.
Complaints about Warwickshire County Councillors will now be handled by a sub-committee of the council’s Audit and Standards Committee.
They will assess whether or not your complaint falls within the scope of the Code of Conduct. This process only applies if your complaint is about the behaviour of a councillor.
The sub-committee will not deal with complaints about things that are not covered by the councillors’ Code of Conduct. If you make a complaint under this process it must be about why you think a councillor has not followed the Code of Conduct.
