Pupils cook up a treat
Warwickshire County Council’s Education Business Partnership has cooked up a treat at a third school in the area.
Working with Stratford District Council has seen the business partnership show year 10 students how a catering business can be run.
Stratford District Council has introduced the 3Fs challenge – The Future of Food is Fun – which was launched at St Benedict’s School in Alcester. Pupils were given professional briefings on topics such as healthy eating, food safety, the hospitality industry, budget, customer care and marketing.
The chef from The Bell Inn at Welford was on hand to dispense advice and the winning team from the challenge will be creating a three course meal at The Bell Inn on 19 May.
Other businesses including Jaguar, One Point Three and Data Image Software sent representatives to advise the students on other aspects of business.
Rory Kavanagh, a year 10 pupil at St Benedict’s said: “This was a great opportunity to express my passion for food to professionals. It gave a fun insight into the catering industry and enabled me to see and understand it better.”
Cllr Chris Saint, portfolio holder for economic development with Warwickshire County Council said: “Companies are extremely keen on school leavers having more idea about what goes on in the business world. Days like this are brilliant for the students, helping to make them more employable when their education is completed so that businesses will ultimately benefit. By drawing on the expertise of all the partners, we have made a considerable investment in the future of the young people.”
