Warwickshire Walking Festival 2008
Walkers are this year being offered more than 70 locations to head out and discover as part of the 2008 Warwickshire Walking Festival.
The festival, organised by Warwickshire County Council’s Countryside Recreation Team, gets underway on the Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend on Saturday 24th May, and continues through until Sunday, June 1.
There will be a festival of more than 70 guided walks across Warwickshire taking in familiar spots and hidden gems in the county’s varied landscape and historic towns.
Walkers will have the chance to join a themed walk about trees, wildlife, local history, archaeological sites, navigation skills or famous figures such as George Eliot or Shakespeare. Local myths and ghost tales will also be recounted on some of the walks.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “There are so many hidden gems in Warwickshire and this festival offers people a tremendous opportunity to get out there, whether on long walks or short strolls.
“There are the themed walks or you can simply enjoy Warwickshire’s beautiful countryside, taking in woodlands, some peaceful waterside walking along rivers and canals, and lovely old villages.”
There are walks suitable for all abilities, including health walks, and everything from a one-mile stroll around town to rambles of over 10 miles.
Anyone attending walks can enter a prize draw, with a chance to win a prize from local outdoor shop Jacksons of Arley.
There will also be the opportunity to show support for Macmillan Cancer by making a donation on any of the walks.
