Youth Offending Service hailed by national expert
A national criminology expert has praised Warwickshire County Council’s Youth Offending Service.
Mike Pressdee, member of the Criminology Department at the University of Kent and author of many articles and books relating to criminology, spoke at a recent conference held at Newbold Revel, the Prison Service’s College in Warwickshire.
Mike Pressdee, along with Youth Offending Service staff, panel members and magistrates from across the Midlands, was shown a new anti-crime DVD which is being launched in Warwickshire’s schools. The film, called ‘Actions Bring Consequences’, has been based on the real-life experiences of young offenders to deter young people across the county from getting involved with crime.
Mike Pressdee said: “This is indeed an important DVD that should be used in educational institutions for any age group.”
Heather Shilling, Warwickshire County Council’s Operations Manager (Interventions) for the Youth Offending Service, said: “The idea behind the film is that a minute of madness can change your whole life and we want prevent young people from making the same mistakes.”
The DVD was produced in association with the Youth Offending Service, Warwickshire Police and Hybrid Arts and was funded by the DCSF Youth Opportunities Fund.
