Patrols on parade in Bedworth

School Crossing Patrols are today (Thursday) showing off their new look at their annual get-together in Bedworth.

Warwickshire County Council employs around 100 School Crossing Patrols across Warwickshire, and from Thursday they will be sporting a new look coat, specially designed for them.

Features of the new coat include a broad red band along the bottom edge of the coat and sleeves, which is particularly effective in low light or sun glare. It also has the benefit allowing both children and drivers alike to distinguish School Crossing Patrols from wearers of standard yellow reflective jackets.

Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “As you can imagine, it’s vital that our patrols can be seen by motorists in all weathers and all conditions and tests have shown that the new red band is one of the most effective ways of doing this.”

School Crossing Patrol Supervisor, Sandra Barton, said: “I’m really pleased with the new coats – not only do they look good, but they have the new added safety feature too   – there’s no excuse for drivers saying they can’t see our patrols now.”
