Arts success for Integr8

A group of budding photographers are celebrating their success in winning awards in three out of the four categories they entered in the Nuneaton Museum and Art Gallery’s Festival of Arts 2008.

Royston Knight, Asha Canning, Linzey Parlour, Kathryn Moore, Maria Ball, Maxine Tallis and Vicki Fox attend ‘Integr8’, a part of Warwickshire County Council’s day service provision in the Nuneaton area for adults with learning disabilities.

For the past 12 months the group have been practising their photography skills, and were encouraged by support workers Damien Tonks and Darren Woods-Powell to enter some of their work into the Nuneaton 2008 Festival of Arts.

Damien said: “The group is very informal and flexible, the aim is to have fun, as much as it is to develop our photography skills.”

Darren Woods-Powell added: “We work in a variety of ways to make it possible for everyone to get involved.”

The group entered four categories: ‘Still Life’, ‘Animal Life’, ‘Free Choice’ and ‘Action’, and were thrilled to be awarded second place for the ‘Still Life’ and ‘Animal Life’ categories, and a merit for the ‘Free Choice’ category.

Royston Knight who is part of the group said: “It’s great news, I can’t believe we’ve won, I’m very proud.”

The exhibition of work continues at Nuneaton Museum and Art Gallery until June 1.
