National Drugs Awareness Week comes to north Warwickshire
Warwickshire County Council’s Drug And Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) is asking residents to take part in National Drugs Awareness Week, 19 – 23 May.
Throughout the week, there will be a range of activities taking place in north Warwickshire including a road show, which will be based in Atherstone Town Centre Market on Tuesday 20 May between 11am and 3pm. Workers from Cranstoun Community Drug Agency will be available for advice and information throughout the day. Representatives from the Young Persons Substance Misuse Group, Voices 4 Choices (service user agency), WCC (Community Safety/DAAT), and the Police (PCSOs) will also be at the stall to offer free information and advice.
Kit Leck, Manager of the Warwickshire DAAT, said:
“The main aim of the event is to raise public awareness of the long and short-term impact of drug misuse on people’s lives. The stall will provide people living in north Warwickshire with a great opportunity to find out more about the range of services available to them and to offer confidential guidance and advice to those most in need.”
Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, Cllr Richard Hobbs said:
“Providing the right support and information to people about drug misuse is essential. National Drug Awareness Week not only aims to help those already involved in drug misuse, but it also helps to educate those who are not. Events like these form part of a longer-term strategy to reduce the amount of drug misuse in Warwickshire and to increase the number of people receiving structured treatment and support.”
Leaflets and posters detailing local services will also be available in local libraries and youth centres. Alternatively log onto http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/drugs
