Schools take action on emergencies

Schools in Warwickshire are getting essential advice on how to plan for and deal with emergencies.

The information guide has been produced by Warwickshire County Council’s Emergency Planning Unit to provide schools with key information on a range of situations including severe weather such as snow and floods, health related issues and school related incidents.

Emergency Planning Officer, Sally Lange said:
“The main aim of the guide is to provide schools with clear guidance on what to do, should an emergency situation arise and who to contact for support. The plan is an updated version and responses, received from schools is that they value the advice and support contained in it. We hope that they will be able to use the information to assist with developing their own emergency plans.”

Portfolio Holder for Community Protection, Councillor Richard Hobbs said:
“The guide will provide schools with clear advice and guidance on how to deal with a range of emergency situations including what to do in severe weather conditions. The guide has been sent to all schools across Warwickshire as part of Warwickshire County Councils commitment to working with schools and safeguarding children. We hope that the guide will prove to be a useful emergency planning tool.”

Portfolio Holder for Holder for Children, Young People and Families, Councillor Izzi Seccombe said:
“Our schools have to be ready for every eventuality and the new guide is a vital instrument to ensure that we are fully prepared. It is important that we maintain the standards which have stood Warwickshire in such good stead during previous emergencies.”

As well as providing advice on emergency situations, the guide also contains a list of key contacts for support and emergency planning advice. For further information log onto http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/epu
