New chair for County Council
Warwickshire County Council has a new chair with Cllr Mrs Marion Haywood taking up the role.
Cllr Haywood who has served as a county councillor for 20 years takes the reins from Cllr John Wells. Her vice chair will be Cllr Peter Barnes.
Based in Warwick South, Cllr Haywood sits on the health and adult and community overview and scrutiny committees as well as Warwick area committee for which she is vice chair.
Cllr Haywood’s role will see her preside over meetings of the Council, ensuring a meeting is a forum for debate and enabling those not in Cabinet to bring cabinet members to account.
The chair of the County Council is also involved in an average of 150-200 engagements a year as the civic head of Warwickshire. These may range from meeting royal visitors, to attending local fetes, village presentations or even visiting military establishments.
Cllr Haywood said: “I am still enjoying my role as a county councillor after all these years. It is with great pride that I take up the role of chair and I am looking forward to the opportunities it will present to meet more people across Warwickshire.”
Leader of the County Council, Cllr Alan Farnell, said; “Cllr Haywood has served the county with unstinting dedication for two decades. That is a tremendous amount of her own time that she has invested in helping the communities she has served. I am delighted that this selfless service has been recognised.”
