Green boost for Age Concern
Rugby residents will soon have one more reason to visit their local household waste recycling centre at Hunters Lane.
After following a competitive tendering process, Warwickshire County Council has awarded the contract to operate the Re-use shop at Hunters Lane to Age Concern Warwickshire.
Age Concern Warwickshire – will use the revenue from the reuse shop to support local schemes and initiatives in Rugby, centred around the activities of the Claremont Centre in Clifton Road.
Two similar re-use shops, which offer good quality second hand items, are already open at recycling centres in Leamington and Stratford.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “We are looking forward to working in partnership with Age Concern Warwickshire and hope that once it’s open, the reuse shop at Hunters Lane will mirror the success of the shops in both Leamington and Stratford.”
Steve Thomson, Director of Business Development at Age Concern Warwickshire, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Warwickshire County Council and to be in a position to deliver a valuable service to the residents of Rugby borough.”
Warwickshire County Council and Age Concern Warwickshire are now busy making arrangements to get the new shop up and running. It is hoped that the shop will open late summer.
