Making parking easier in Warwick and Leamington
The latest technology is being used to help visitors and residents heading into Warwick and Leamington find a parking space.
The Warwick and Leamington new Variable Messaging Sign (VMS) Schemes are similar to the one operating in Stratford upon Avon where electronic message boards announce to drivers how many spaces are available in town centre car parks.
The aim is to guide motorists heading into Warwick and Leamington with the new hi-tech traffic signs to the most convenient off-street parking space.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “The new equipment will provide drivers visiting both town centres with up to the minute information on where they can find a car park space. This will make finding a suitable off-street parking space easy as well as reducing congestion on the roads and reducing journey times.”
In Leamington Spa the signs show the number of spaces available in various car parks within the Town centre. These signs will allow drivers to pre-select the car park they wish to park in, based on the number of spaces available.
The signs for the Warwick system show the name of the best car park for the visitor’s intended destination, for example the Town centre and Racecourse.
Talks are still underway with Warwick Castle and it is hoped that the Castle car park can be added to the system soon.
