Views on Household Waste Recycling Centre plan
Warwickshire County Council and Staffordshire County Council are seeking people’s views on proposals to develop a household waste recycling centre and waste transfer station at Lower House Farm, near Dordon.
These views will help shape the final design, prior to the submission of a planning application for the development later this year.
The proposed household waste facility will replace the existing site in Spon Lane, Grendon, while the waste transfer station will be a new and additional facility in the area.
Some of the benefits of the new development include:
An increased capacity to separate waste for re-use and recycling;
The ability to transfer non-recyclable waste to more remote facilities including an energy from waste plant being developed by Staffordshire;
The removal of congestion on the A5 arising from vehicles queuing to access the Grendon site; and
Improvements in health and safety through better design.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, stressed there are environmental benefits to be gained.
He said: “This development will result in less waste being sent to landfill, and more waste to be recycled and reused. The household waste recycling centre aims to increase the amount of waste being recycled by collecting a wider range of materials, and by making it easier and more accessible for people to use the facilities.”
People can express their views at a consultation event taking place over two days at Wood End Primary School, Wood Street, Wood End, Atherstone, CV9 2QL.
The event will be open from 2pm to 8pm on Friday 4th July and from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, 5th July. Members of the public will have until 5pm on Friday 18th July to respond to the consultation.
Response forms may be collected at the consultation event, or following it from Dordon Library. Information and an online response form will also be available from the 4th July at the following web address http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/lowerhousefarm.
Cllr Heatley added: “We hope the public will want to attend this event and help shape the development of this proposal. We are seeking to address any concerns, and of course, expressions of support will be equally important to bring about this improvement to waste facilities in the area.”
