‘Crucial’ lessons for children
‘Crucial’ information is on the cards for over 600 primary school children in Warwickshire, when they take part in this years Crucial Crew event.
The event is being run Warwickshire County Councils Fire and Rescue Service, Road Safety Team, Emergency Planning Team and Trading Standards in Partnership with the National Grid, EON, TNT, St Johns Ambulance and Warwickshire Police.
Crucial Crew will run from Monday 7 July to Friday 11 July at Edstone Hall and Gardens near Henley-in-Arden.
Every day young people aged between 10 -11 (Year 6) will take part in interactive sessions to learn potentially life-saving skills including what to do in emergencies such as fire and floods, basic first aid and how to make a 999 call.
They will also find out more about road safety including a bike safety check; take a walk along ‘safety street’ for advice on product and food safety; get top tips on how to stay safe on the internet including chat rooms and instant messaging; learn a key emergency message, “Go in, Stay in, Tune in”; understand the dangers of playing with kites and footballs near power lines; and find out how to keep safe near water.
Cllr Richard Hobbs, Warwickshire County Council portfolio holder for Community Protection, said: “It’s very important for young people to learn about safety and how to deal with everyday dangers, and Crucial Crew is a great way to do this.”
“The event is so successful because it is interactive, educational and great fun, but most importantly gives children the knowledge which could potentially save lives.”
David Whitehouse, Head of Community Protection at Warwickshire Police, said: "Crucial Crew is a tried and tested programme where children throughout the county have an enjoyable learning experience on a range of safety issues.
“Warwickshire Police recognise and fully support the week in protecting children from harm."
