Youngsters have a real FLARE!
Students with special educational needs have been showcasing their skills at a passing out parade.
The youg people aged between 15 and 16-years-old took part in the parade to mark the completion of a 16 day interactive youth scheme - FLARE, which is run by Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service.
Students from Welcombe Hills School in Stratford, Roundoak School in Warwick and Riverhouse School in Henley-in-Arden have all taken part in the course, which ran over eight weeks.
Each participant received a framed certificate for their commitment to the course and for proving their team-working capabilities in a range of activities including orienteering, abseiling, fire safety drills, driver safety, team building and first aid training.
They also received a record of achievement folder to build up with their certificates and future qualifications to show to potential employers.
Cllr Richard Hobbs, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Protection, said: “The aim of FLARE is to help build communication skills, increase confidence, maintain self-discipline and help them become a real team player.
“Not only are these skills fundamental in fire fighting but they can also be applied to everyday life.”
