Rugby pupils get career advice

Business professional and training providers have joined Rugby school pupils to give them an idea of what careers could be out there for them.

15 Businesses and Training Providers have given Year 10 students at Bilton School an insight into a wide variety of different jobs at the Careers 4 U Event, organised by the Warwickshire Education Business Partnership.

The students received information on qualifications, career paths and
get straight talking presentations and hands-on workshops about jobs and training in Rugby and Warwickshire to help them make decisions about life after school.

Workshops included careers in retail (by ASDA), the NHS, construction (Stepnell), engineering (Quartzelec), childcare, automotive design (Land Rover), graphic design, the Police, marketing (Practical Action), finance (Coventry Building Society) and training providers ETW, Zenith, 1st Choice and Pathways to Law.

Speaking on behalf of the Bilton School staff responsible for organising the event, in partnership with Warwickshire EBP, Head of PSHE Tony Tayler said: “Last year we successfully introduced a day dedicated to both Enterprise and Careers. As a school we are keen to build on this and get the students thinking about the skills, qualities and knowledge they will need to succeed in the adult working world. Giving the students up to date information from real businesses in a fun and accessible way is the first step.”
