Volunteers invited to tea!

Six volunteers from Warwickshire Fire Emergency Support Service have received invitations to have tea with HRH, The Prince of Wales at this year’s annual garden party.

The volunteers, Norman and Patricia Winnett, Gillian Sheldon, Darrel and Sarah O’Malley and Gerald Watts all received letters of invitation to Buckingham Palace to attend the garden party on Tuesday 8 July 2008 for their dedication and commitment to the British Red Cross.

Jeff Stevens, co-ordinator for the Fire Emergency Support Service said:
“It is unusual to have six volunteers from the same group being asked to attend an event of this kind. The volunteers are obviously delighted and are looking forward to meeting HRH, the Prince of Wales. The invitations were received in recognition of their hard work and dedication to their role as volunteers for Fire Emergency Support Service, which provides assistance to hundreds of residents across Coventry and Warwickshire.”

The Fire and Emergency Support Service, which is based at Kenilworth Fire Station is designed to meet the needs of people who have suffered damage to their homes following a fire, flood or similar incident. In 2007 the Fire Emergency Support Unit attended 230 incidents in Coventry and Warwickshire assisting 271 adults, 59 children, 7 infants and 23 pets including cats, dogs, snakes and even a donkey!
