Help at hand for people out of work

People who are out of work in Warwickshire are to be given a helping hand with the launch of a brand new initiative this week from Warwickshire County Council.

Thanks to a funding windfall from the Learning and Skills Council and the European Social Fund, Warwickshire County Council has launched Skills for Jobs with its team of experienced ‘Employment and Training Advisers’ to help people to identify the right job for them and to build the skills and confidence to go for it.

Helen Flanagan, Project Manager on Skills for Jobs, said: “This is a totally free advice and training service for anyone who has been out of work for 12 months or more. Unlike many other initiatives you don’t have to have been claiming benefits to take advantage. We can work with people who have taken a career break to bring up children or to care for elderly relatives for example. It doesn’t matter why you’re out of work or what type of job you want to move into.

“We have a really helpful and friendly team who are experienced in knowing what employers are looking for, and all our training is focussed on helping people to gain a clear direction and to build the self confidence and skills needed to get back out there.”

Through this project all learners will be given access to free skills training, work placement opportunities and their own adviser to help them every step of the way.

Cllr Chris Saint, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, said: “Whether it’s brushing up on IT skills, increasing self confidence or learning the winning formula to get through that interview this team has the skills to help people.”
