Summer closure of Bilton Lane

Bilton Lane in Rugby is to close to traffic this summer to allow for the construction of a key junction with the new £37m Rugby Western Relief Road.

Bilton Lane will be closed from Monday, July 21st until mid to late August to allow for the works at the junction where Bilton Lane joins the new relief road.

Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “Careful planning has ensured these works take place during the school holidays and was preferred by local residents and other road users as it would minimise disruption.

“Every effort will be made to have Bilton Lane reopened to traffic by harvest time as it will be well used by agricultural traffic.”

Pedestrians should be able to cross the junction at all times during the works, although there may be short delays to allow earthmoving equipment to cross.

Cllr Heatley added: “With the school holidays approaching I would like to stress on behalf of both Carillion plc and Warwickshire County Council the need for children and others to stay away from the site. Like all construction sites, it is potentially dangerous with numerous hazards such as deep excavations and heavy earthmoving operations.”

To try and stop people accessing the site barriers will be in place to try and stop unauthorised people gaining entry on to the site.

If however anyone is interested in seeing the construction progressing on the relief road, a number of tours will be conducted during the summer months. Places are limited so will be administered on a first come, first served basis. For more details please contact Peter Bones on 01788 513125.
