Cylinder fires are cause for concern
Firefighters from Atherstone are warning businesses to take more care when storing LPG cylinders after attending a number of incidents where they have been set alight.
The most recent incident was a small fire at the rear of RK Engineering, Carlyon Road, Atherstone. Crews attending arrived to find that a LPG Cylinder had been put on top of a fire and then set alight.
Crew Manager, Andy Freeman said:
“Fires involving gas cylinders can cause a massive amount of disruption, not to mention how dangerous they can be when exposed to heat. This incident took place at around 6am. Had this been a weekend and the factory been closed, they may well have come into see a burnt out shell on Monday morning. This time, there was very little impact and thanks to the quick actions of the factory workers a disaster was avoided.
“In light of this we are asking businesses to think about where and how they store LPG cylinders. If they are used, stored, and disposed of safely, then the majority of these incidents could be avoided.“
