Open house at Park House
Park House Youth and Community Centre in Nuneaton is encouraging young people to come along and see what is on offer this summer.
The club in Riversley Road has recently been given a makeover by local youngsters who successfully bid for £25,000 from the Youth Opportunity Fund to carry out the work.
The main aspect of the refurbishment was the installation of new kitchen facilities with disabled access which will be used by both youngsters and staff to prepare good quality food for everyone.
The Youth Opportunity Fund bid was put together by youth club regular Kirsty Ford, who has since become an assistant youth worker at Park House. The Fund is a DCSF initiative operated through Warwickshire County Council.
The centre, which serves the area surrounding Manor Park School, has more grand plans in the pipeline including creating a gym. It already has a chill out zone, coffee bar and internet access, and runs a range of workshops, sports and music activities and residential courses.
Pindy Sanghera, Warwickshire County Council’s Nuneaton and Bedworth Youth and Community worker, said: “I would urge all young people in the area to come along on Tuesdays or Thursdays to see what activities and interest we can offer at Park House youth club.
“There is so much going on that there is no need for youngsters to be bored over the summer holidays and beyond.”
Two regular attendants are youngsters Lauren Atkins and Kaylea Livock, who have been going to the centre for the past two years. They added: “It’s a great place to hang out instead of the streets and it’s particularly good that we get to use the free internet access."
The youth club is open from 7.30pm to 9.30pm Tuesdays and Thursdays for 13 to 19-year-olds. Entrance is 50p.
