Sizzling prize for local walker
A Warwickshire County Council care worker from Nuneaton has climbed Ben Nevis to raise funds for a local care home.
Elsie Wilson, a Care Assistant at Caldwell Grange in Nuneaton, completed the challenging 1344 metre climb in 9 hours. Caldwell Grange is part of the council’s provision for older people, and Elsie has worked there as a Care Assistant for the past 19 years.
Elsie explained that she and her husband are keen walkers, and along with a group of friends decided to climb Ben Nevis. She decided that it was an ideal opportunity to raise some money at the same time, so got staff, friends and family of the residents at Caldwell Grange to sponsor her.
Elsie was delighted to raise £250, which has been used to buy a new barbeque for all the residents.
Jacky West, Manager of Caldwell Grange said:
“We all appreciate the money that Elsie has raised, and the barbeque has been put to good use already.”
Elsie said:
“My husband and I have been keen walkers for the last three years and are looking forward to taking on even greater challenges in the future.”
