Bids open for community groups
Community groups and voluntary organisations across North Warwickshire are being invited by Warwickshire County Council’s North Warwickshire Area Committee to bid to this year’s Community Development Fund.
A share of £30,000 has been made available by County Councillors of the North Warwickshire Area Committee for one-off projects that address issues of local concern.
Last year 13 local groups received funding including: Jack & Jill Pre-School Nursery in Dordon; North Warwickshire Home Services, Over Whitacre; and Arley Parochial Church Council were just some of the lucky organisations to benefit from the fund.
This year’s fund officially launched on Monday 28 July. Organisations must make their bids with the support of their local County Councillor, and applications must be received by the deadline of 12 September 2008.
Councillor Peter Fowler, Portfolio Holder for Partnerships and Localities at Warwickshire County Council said: “Since its launch in 1994, the Community Development Fund has given well over £1.25 million to support over 400 projects. We’d really encourage local groups to come up with ideas and apply for money to help enrich the community.”
“The money awarded allows Warwickshire County Council to work in partnership to increase access to a number of important local services.”
The fund is run by Warwickshire County Council to help communities, particularly in more deprived parts of the county, address issues of local concern to them.
Once the bids are in, County Councillors in North Warwickshire will pick the successful applications at their Area Committee meeting in November.
Last year, Arley Parochial Church Council received funding towards building and managing a new purpose built community centre for New Arley.
North Warwickshire Home Services received a grant to publicise the bi-weekly mobile shop / drop-in service to support housebound residents in the South of the borough.
Jack & Jill Pre-School Nursery were awarded a grant for a new kitchen area at the nursery to enable them to cater for more children.
