Fire safety just got hotter!
Firefighters in Rugby will be showing residents just how hot the summer can be as they launch their summer fire safety campaign.
The launch will take place at Elliot Field Retail Park stores, Wickes on 4 August and Homebase on 5 August. Visitors to the stores will be able to get free fire safety advice and see the new events trailer which has been purchased to help crews tour the county promoting key fire safety messages.
The main aim of the campaign is to highlight the hidden dangers of the summer, which includes anything from lighting up your barbecue to camping in the great outdoors. As well as getting free fire safety advice, visitors will also be able to enter a free prize draw to win one of a range of prizes offered courtesy of Wickes, Homebase and Blooms.
All you have to do is come along to Wickes between 10.30 and 12.30pm on Monday 4 August or Homebase garden centre between 10.30 and 12.30pm on Tuesday 5 August and enter the free prize draw.
Firefighter Paul Haywood said:
“Fire safety is a real issue during the summer months. We often get called out to homes where barbecues have got out of control due to the use of an accelerant. The aim of launching this campaign is to try and reduce the amount of those types of incidents in Rugby and to keep residents safe.
“We are grateful that local businesses are supporting us and I would like to thank Wickes, Homebase and Blooms for their generous donations for the prize draw.”
Portfolio Holder for Community Protection, Councillor Richard Hobbs said:
“There is always an increase in 999 calls during the summer months, a number of which are down to the incorrect use of barbecues. It is essential that people are aware of the dangers of using barbecues, as it only takes a lapse in concentration or the use of an accelerant for them to easily get out of control.”
