Summer roadshow is coming to Stratford
Shoppers in Stratford-upon-Avon are being offered the chance to ask Warwickshire County Council for help in tackling congestion in the town.
Staff will be on hand at a roadshow in Stratford’s Rother Market on Friday, August 22.
They’ll be there to answer questions about travel and more specifically how to walk, cycle and use public transport more often. Copies of the Stratford Cycle map guide, bus timetables and a wealth of other information will be available for visitors to take away.
There will also be the opportunity to find out more about tackling congestion at the school gates, and to learn about School Travel Plans. Once a Travel Plan has been written it allows the school to apply for a grant. The grant can be spent on the school site for things like paths, sheltered areas for parents to wait and cycle storage areas.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “The summer holiday is the ideal opportunity for students and parents to practice the walking, cycling or bus route to school before the start of term. Children will get the regular exercise they require and valuable road safety, independence and social skills that will help them in life.”
The county council has organised cycle training courses for children at the Stratford High School, Alcester Rd, during the week commencing 18th August. Children aged 7 to 9 can take part in a skills course, and on-road training will be available for those aged 9 and over. Courses cost £13 and £20. Please call Mary Holiday on 01926 412776 for bookings and enquiries.
Visitors to the stand on Friday, August 22, will also be able to find out about reducing waste and saving energy.
