Snap up some great prizes

Budding and established photographers are being called on to bring Warwickshire sharply into focus and maybe pick up some prizes in the process.

The Warwickshire Photograph Competition 2008 is underway and already hundreds of people have submitted their entries.

However, one of the new categories this year, People and Events, has not yet inspired the county’s photographers and a call is going out for more people to get submitting those pictures of people enjoying themselves.

enjoywarwickshire.com, the official tourism website for the county, has expanded its Warwickshire Photograph Competition this year to now include a total of four categories, with a prize being offered by local businesses for each category winner.

The 2008 categories are;

People and events - this includes images of people enjoying themselves at public events or the assembled crowds and faces watching the event. It could also be of what’s actually going on at the event, such as participants or interesting shots of the activity the event centres around.

Landscapes and countryside - this includes scenic views of the county such as panoramic shots or specific parts of the countryside such as rivers and canals, lakes and reservoirs, trails and walkways or even images of the local wildlife and plants.

Landmarks and tourism attractions - this includes famous landmarks or buildings well known to all. Small or large tourism attractions such as grand stately homes or even theatres or churches are also included. It could also include any interesting images around towns or shots of cityscapes.

Junior/Young persons category - this category is open for any person 16 or under and can be any image related to tourism.

Sponsors for the competition are all local businesses and include The Old Post Office Gallery in Leamington Spa, which is framing the winning entries for each category.

Camerama Ltd from Kenilworth is giving as the prize for the ‘People and Events’ category a Fuji camera, case and card to the value of approx £160.

Cheryl Doshi Photography Ltd of Leamington Spa is offering a choice of either Monitor Calibration Software or Image Manipulation Software to the value of £70 as the prize of the ‘Landscapes and countryside’ category.

The prize for the ‘Landmarks and tourism attractions’ category is a family ticket for any date to a tourist attraction in Warwickshire of the winner’s choice.

WhoArtNow based in Leicester is providing and printing the winning image of the ‘Junior/Young persons’ category or an image of the winner’s choice onto a 24" x 16" piece of canvas.

Cllr Chris Saint, Warwickshire County Council Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, said: “We’ve had a fantastic response to this competition in previous years, demonstrating the vast array of views and scenes to be enjoyed around Warwickshire.

“We hope lots of people will hunt out those unusual and artistic shots and get them in to us as we have some good prizes on offer for this year’s competition”
