Warwickshire Duke of Edinburgh's Award now recruiting
Are you looking for something fun to do and want to try something new? Are you bored with sitting around not doing anything and want a new challenge? Want to meet some new friends?
If so, go down to Tyler House Youth and Community Centre in Stratford on September 10 and sign up for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
During September and October the centre is opening up its doors to give young people the chance to start either their silver or gold award.
Run by Warwickshire County Council, the programme for the Award is becoming very popular, with training weekends and expeditions planned for the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Wales and Peak District.
The typical programme operates one evening a week during term time, with the final expedition taking part in the summer holidays. As well as getting to learn map reading and navigation, how to put up a tent in the dark and how to cook outside, the programme includes fun evenings to try some new skills and activities.
Anyone interested in the scheme should pop down to the open evening at Tyler House Youth and Community Centre at Tyler Street on Wednesday 10 September between 7.30pm and 9.30pm to meet the staff and find out more information.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a voluntary, non-competitive and flexible programme of cultural and adventurous activities for all young people, whatever their background or ability.
It is universally recognised and widely adopted as the best programme for the personal development of young people with three levels - gold, silver and bronze. The Award consists of service, skills, physical recreation, expeditions and a residential project.

“The scheme provides excellent character-building and personal development for young people aged between 14 and 25, and is an opportunity to meet new people and try new activities.”
