Warwickshire celebrates GCSE results
Many Warwickshire pupils will be celebrating today as they receive the results of their GCSEs and vocational examinations.
Complete county data is not available until later in the year. Warwickshire headteachers are anticipating improved results again this year with expected results above the national average.
Warwickshire County Council has been working closely with schools which continue to place emphasis on the importance of standards in literacy and numeracy with a focus on the number of pupils achieving five or more higher grade GCSE passes including English and mathematics.
Cllr Izzi Seccombe, Warwickshire County Council, Portfolio Holder for Children Young People and Families, said: “I would like to congratulate all our students on their achievements and wish them luck for the future, whether this be in further education, training or employment. May I also take this opportunity to praise the hard work and dedication of all the teaching staff that contributed to the students’ success.
“It will be some time before we receive full results for the county, but we are anticipating the many pupils will have been successful in reaching their target grades.”
Bob Hooper, Head of School Performance at Warwickshire County Council, said: “I am sure many young people will be celebrating today as they receive their GCSE results. For most young people this will enable them to move on to the next stage of their education or training. It is really good to see the hard work of both teachers and students pay off in these successful outcomes.
“Although the majority of students will be delighted with their results, we recognise that some students may not have achieved the grades that they expected and we would like to assure them that good support is available through their school and local Connexions service. Whatever their results there are a variety of career opportunities open to them to continue their learning at school, college or in a work-based training situation.”
