Henley Library to re-open
The people of Henley will once again have their library restored and ready for use on Tuesday 2 September.
The library based in the Guild Hall on Henley High Street reopens its doors at 9.30 on Tuesday. It will then open Tuesdays and Fridays from 9.30am to 6.00pm closing for an hour for lunch at 1pm and will also open on Saturdays from 9.30-12.30.
The library has been closed since structural damage to the building was identified when the building was inspected following the floods. The building suffered severe structural damage, which has had to be painstakingly repaired, along with further damage to stock, carpets and counter shelving.
Funds to carry out the repairs had to be identified and staff also had to await suitable conditions to undertake the work.
However rather than leave Henley’s residents without a library service, temporary arrangements were made with the Henley Heritage Centre, which accommodated a library service when its premises were free and then the mobile library service stepped in when the centre was no longer vacant.
Councillor Alan Cockburn, Warwickshire County Council’s portfolio holder for resources, said: “The people of Henley have been very patient waiting for their library to re-open. We are grateful to the Heritage Centre and to the mobile library service for their kind help in enabling us to provide a service whilst the very difficult work was funded and carried out.
“However, we are delighted to say that this beautiful building has been restored and is once again fit for purpose as a library. We trust that the people of Henley will enjoy having this greatly valued facility available to them once again.”
