Celebrating a business boost for education
The business world is about to become a whole lot more accessible to Warwickshire schoolchildren.
Warwickshire Education Business Partnership has won a three-year contract from STEMNET to act as a STEMPOINT – working in partnership towards a society where young people, regardless of background, recognise the contribution of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) to their lives and where more choose to pursue STEM qualifications and careers.
With the support of Warwickshire Education Business Partnership , STEMPOINT is looking to reach more than 70 secondary schools and colleges, along with many primary schools, across Coventry & Warwickshire.
The aims are to:
Bring science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities, experiences and excitement in to classrooms in Coventry and Warwickshire, enhancing and enriching the national STEM curriculum.
By linking those companies and other organisations that employ STEM educated people, and schools, in such a way that young people can get a clear idea of the diverse and exciting range of careers available to them.
This will complement the existing efforts of Warwickshire Education Business Partnership, a part of Warwickshire County Council, which works with businesses in the county to help children become ready for the world of work.
Head of Warwickshire EBP, Sheila Hancox, said: “This contract win is great news and dovetails perfectly with the work we are already doing. This contract with STEMNET should enrich and enhance students’ experiences and help them become better prepared for working life.
Science Engineering Ambassadors (SEAs) are a key part of the STEMPOINT contract, many are already linked with schools in Coventry & Warwickshire, but more will be recruited to support STEMNET’s aims to encourage young people to consider STEM related qualifications and future careers.”
Cllr Chris Saint, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, said: “My congratulations goes to Warwickshire EBP in winning this contract which will enable us to strengthen our total offer to schools and the benefits to our young people achieved by the partnership between the business and education worlds.”
