Twenty five year milestone for Kenilworth carers
Pat Huggins and Eileen Joyce have been caring for older people in Kenilworth for the past 25 years have clocked up 50 years of service between them.
Pat and Eileen both live in Kenilworth and since 1983 have worked as Home Carers for Warwickshire County Council’s Adult Health and Community Services.
This achievement was celebrated at the Evergreen Centre in Kenilworth, where colleagues and people who use the service gathered to mark the occasion.
Pat recalled that when she first started as a Home Carer a lot of her work involved making fires and doing domestic duties. Pat added that since then lots has changed and her role now involves supporting people with all aspects of care.
Eileen said:
“It’s a job you can never get bored of, you meet lots of lovely people and every day is different.”
Linda Butterworth, Kenilworth Home Care Manager said:
“Pat and Eileen are excellent workers who don’t hesitate to put themselves out to work above and beyond the call of duty.”
She added:
“When they started work in August 1983 they were paid £1.90 per hour and petrol was only 25 pence per litre.
“It was also the year when mobile phones were first introduced, and what’s even more incredible is that Pat still hasn’t got one!”
Pat and Eileen are both looking forward to many more successful years of working.
