Rugby Western Relief Road latest

Motorists are being warned of congestion from Tuesday as three way traffic lights are erected on a busy junction as part of the construction of the £37m Rugby Western Relief Road.

From Tuesday, 9th September, there will to be temporary 3-way traffic lights at the junction of Paynes Lane and Lawford Road to allow drainage work to get underway.

These will be for 24 hours a day and will take about three weeks.

Traffic congestion is likely at this busy junction, particularly at peak hours, and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes if possible.

Meanwhile work is progressing well on the huge project with tarmac now being laid on the main run between Potford’s Dam and Cawston Roundabout. This is being done while drainage works in this area are completed.

Bilton Lane was closed to the public while work on the junction was being carried out. This was reopened on August 29th, but there are temporary traffic lights to control the passage earthmoving dump trucks in use, though these are not creating a significant delay to motorists.

After a prolonged spell of wet weather the excavation of a cutting to the south of Sow Brook has now recommenced and the dug material is being used to create an embankment for Parkfield Roundabout 2km away. The bad weather has delayed this operation by about four weeks.

Work on the Cawston Underpass, which is to span part of the National Cycle Network, has resumed and the concrete bases of the end retaining walls are now being constructed.

The concrete of the remaining pier base of Avon River Bridge has been poured and work on the abutments is continuing.

There have been a number of mini bus tours of the site over the last few weeks. These have been held on Tuesday mornings and are proving to be very popular with those who have taken part. They are open to members of the public, but it is requested that children under 14 are accompanied by an adult.

If you would like to take part please contact Peter Bones on 01788 513125. Places are allocated on a first come first served basis but we will do our best to accommodate all those who are interested.
