Fantastic fun with words!
A long awaited festival with funding from the Arts Council is running from Saturday 20 to Sunday 28 September in venues across north Warwickshire and the Nuneaton and Bedworth district.
The festival is a highlight of our celebrations of the National Year of Reading which aims to promote the fascination and enjoyment of reading particularly to families including foster families.
The festival has been organised by Warwickshire County Council’s Library service. It starts with a fun day at Nuneaton Library on Sat 20 September and ends at Kingsbury Water Park on Sunday 28 September, when one of our new, award-winning mobile libraries – “Romeo” - will be on hand for information, internet access and a backdrop to actors from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust performing potted Shakespeare!
Both fun days will feature storyteller Clive Cole and other authors as well as trails and quizzes. Horrid Henry will be on hand at Nuneaton, and Peter Rabbit will be hopping round both locations. Both days will run from 11am until 4pm and each will cost £2-50 for a family ticket covering all events that day.
In between the two festivals will be author events for schools in each of the 14 libraries in the area as well as public events like a readers’ evening with RJ Ellory and Helen Cross in Nuneaton and a writers’ workshop with Chris Hoskins at Coleshill Library.
Stella Thebridge, National Year of Reading Co-ordinator for Warwickshire, said
“I am delighted to see this festival take place. It is a wonderful opportunity for people in the north to experience the fun side of books and libraries. We will be launching the event by cutting a cake at Nuneaton Library and hope that as many people as possible will be able to join in over the week’s events.”
