The great computer give-away

This Christmas, Warwickshire County Council is once again giving away 125 recycled computers to local community groups.

The council is looking to support groups who have little or no existing IT equipment, and little financial resources, and who can demonstrate the computers will be used for local community benefit.

Last year, groups that benefited included village halls, youth clubs, play-groups, sports clubs, day-care centres and Parish Councils.

Cllr Peter Fowler, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Performance and Development, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer these free computers to help local voluntary and community groups.

“They would make a valuable contribution to the work of any organisation who can fulfil the eligibility criteria.”

The free computers are supplied with a range of equipment and software, including anti-virus protection, and a three-month warranty.

Application forms are available by contacting the Partnerships and Communities Team at Warwickshire County Council on 01926 412020, emailing communitycomputers@warwickshire.gov.uk, or downloading a form from http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/freecomputers

The closing date for applications is Friday 14 November 2008. Allocation decisions will be made by local councillors in time for Christmas
