Get outdoors this winter
The ultimate guide for having a busy winter outdoors has this week been launched by Warwickshire County Council’s Country Parks Service.
All eight of Warwickshire’s country parks and greenways are open throughout the autumn and winter months, only closing on Christmas Day.
Country parks staff have produced a new 26 page booklet which not only gives details of the events programme for the next six months, but also incorporates valuable information about all the country parks and greenways in Warwickshire.
There’s even a list of walking and cycling publications included, together with an order form that people can use to purchase maps and books by telephone or by mail order.
In addition this winter, there is a special voucher scheme – if a child attends four different countryside activities with country parks over the winter, they will be entitled to a fifth event for free.
Use the voucher in the booklet, or collect one from our Visitor Centres and make sure it is stamped at each different event attended. The vouchers can be used at Kingsbury, Ryton or Pooley Country Park events. Present your completed voucher when booking the fifth event.
Country Parks Visitor Manager, Paula Cheesman, said: “This is a really exciting winter programme for our visitors. Our events programme has gone from strength to strength in recent years, with lots of new activities and walks being introduced each season.
“Where an event states that booking is essential, I would suggest that anyone wanting to take part in that activity should book their places quickly, to avoid disappointment.”
Cllr Martin Heatley, the county council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “This new booklet includes just about all the information that anyone could need to plan a trip out in the countryside for some fresh air and healthy exercise.”
The booklet is free of charge and is available from all Warwickshire’s Country Parks where activities will take place between October 2008 and March 2009.
There will also be another whole host of themed activities taking place at Kingsbury Water Park, Pooley Country Park and Ryton Pools Country Park during the school holidays.
Various nature walks, Christmas trails, bird feeder and decoration making, den building, pond dipping and birds of prey events are just a few of the many different activities visitors will be able to take part in.
Anyone wanting their own free copy of the new booklet, entitled What’s on in Warwickshire’s Countryside should ring Kingsbury Water Park on 01827 872660 or email: parks@warwickshire.gov.uk.
