Warwickshire hails Young Firefighters success
A team of Young Firefighters from Warwickshire have shown they are amongst the best in the UK after winning gold at the World Firefighters Games in Liverpool.
The group - aged between 13 and 17 – from the Warwick Branch of Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service’s Young Firefighter Association, were invited to take part in the Toughest Young Fire Crew event.
Young Firefighter Association crews from Liverpool, Essex and Merseyside also took part with teams having to carry a small fire engine around a track, while completing a number of fire-fighting tasks.
Warwickshire’s senior YFA Team (15 to 17-years-old) took the title after beating Essex in the final.
Dave Rist, Instructor for the Warwick branch of the Young Firefighters Association, said: “This is the first time Young Firefighters have been invited to the World Firefighter Games and is testament to the hard work put in every week.
”The young people involved are great fun and we hope we get another opportunity to take part soon.”
Cllr Richard Hobbs, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Protection, said: “The Young Firefighters Association in Warwickshire has gone from strength to strength since it started and the teams’ success really shows what young people in the county can do.
“It is a fantastic achievement and I congratulate them for their efforts.”
