Higham Lane pupils get a taste of big business

Year 7 students from Higham Lane School in Nuneaton will this week be taking on an Enterprise Challenge co-ordinated by the Warwickshire Education Business Partnership.

The event on Thursday will involve the 11 year olds taking part in a business simulation whereby they set up and run a production company.

During the exercise pupils will make finance and personnel decisions, purchasing materials and running a production line where they produce the goods, which they then have to sell in order to make a profit.

To succeed they will have to utilise their teamwork, communication, organisational and time management skills.

Local businesses will be coming into school to offer guidance to the students throughout the event. Companies supporting the initiative include: Ashford Construction, Coventry Building Society, Land Rover, Jaguar, Pastels Day Centre, Warwickshire Police, North Warwickshire and Hinckley College, Contitech and MIRA.

The Enterprise Challenge has been co-ordinated by the Warwickshire Education Business Partnership, a part of Warwickshire County Council, and aims to help the youngsters be more prepared for the world of work
