Call for views on meeting future care needs
The public are being asked to contribute their views on the future of care services during a scrutiny exercise being carried out by Warwickshire County Council.
The County Council’s Adult and Community Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee has convened a select committee meeting to discuss the issues around The Case for Change, a national debate on meeting the needs of a changing society for care, support and independence.
The select committee, to be held at 10am on October 15 at Shire Hall in Warwick, will hear evidence submitted by a range of organisations including Age Concern, NHS Warwickshire and the Countywide Older People’s Forum.
Every adult in the country will be affected by changes to the current system and councillors are urging the public to join the national debate.
Views are being sought on three broad issues – improving care and support, paying for care and support and delivering care and support.
“The Case for Change: why England needs a new care and support system” is a cross-government consultation paper launched by the Prime Minister in May to find a way forward on how a fair, affordable and sustainable system of care and support can be delivered in the medium term.
Councillor Mota Singh, Vice-Chairman of Warwickshire County Council’s Adult and Community Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee, said: “The debate examines our changing society and how services can continue to be provided in the future.
“The main issues centre on realising the vision for a social care system, striking a funding balance between the state, the individual and the family, and how care and support is targeted both locally and nationally.”
Evidence collected during the select committee will contribute to a report in response to the Government consultation which will be presented to the County Council’s Cabinet later this year.
If members of the public wish to attend the committee meeting, they should contact Louise Denton, Overview and Scrutiny Officer, on 01926 412630.
