Parenting ‘Oscars’ ceremonies to be held
Warwickshire County Council’s Youth Offending Service will be holding a number of special award ceremonies as part of ‘Parents Week’ celebrations (20 – 26 October 2008).
They will be held during weekly ‘Parents Matter’ lunch club drop-in sessions at Leamington, Rugby and Nuneaton to recognise the difference parents involved are making.
Awards will be given to the winners of categories including ‘the Parent making the greatest difference this year’; ‘the most valued member of the group’; and ‘the parent who has improved their parenting skills the most’.
Vicki Barnes, Team Leader (interventions) at the Youth Offending Service, said: “Parents really enjoy attending the lunch clubs and find them a very rewarding experience.
“The aim is to help Mums and Dads achieve things they never realised they could, and we are incredibly proud of the effort put in every week.”
Cllr Izzi Seccombe, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children, Young People and Families, said: “The ‘Parent’s Matter’ scheme gives parents an opportunity to let off steam and do what they want to do.
“These awards ceremonies are a great way to recognise their achievements and I congratulate all involved in the scheme.”
