Award accolade for Warwickshire’s rail innovation
Warwickshire County Council has won acclaim for its work in driving forward improvements to the county’s railway stations.
At the 2008 London Midland Gold Awards, Warwickshire County Council won a Highly Commended Award for ‘Working in Partnership’.
This is as a result of the Warwickshire Quality Rail Partnership, which was established in 2006 and in that time about £600,000 has been spent improving railway stations in the county.
In particular the awards recognised the recent improvement works at the Nuneaton and Earlswood stations.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “I’m delighted to see that once again the hard work of the county has been recognised.
“This is yet another occasion where Warwickshire is leading the way with other authorities watching the way we do things in Warwickshire. Hertfordshire County Council set up a Quality Rail Partnership in 2007 and other authorities are also looking into it.
“This Highly Commended award is a great achievement, and saw the county council beat all other non-London Midland nominations for the award.”
