Reuse Shop at Hunters Lane is officially opened
A remarkable 2,000 kilograms of waste have been diverted from landfill since the Age Concern Warwickshire charity shop opened on the site of the Hunters Lane Recycling Centre in Rugby.
And yesterday officials and dignitaries from Warwickshire County Council and Age Concern Warwickshire visited the reuse shop at Hunters Lane Recycling Centre for its formal opening.
The shop is operated by Age Concern Warwickshire, who were awarded a three-year contract to run the Reuse shop at Hunters Lane by Warwickshire County Council.
Age Concern Warwickshire will use the money raised from the reuse shop to support local schemes and initiatives in Rugby, centred around the activities of the Claremont Centre in Clifton Road.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “Supporting the shop by donating items is a positive way members of the public can reduce the amount of waste that goes into landfill, while simultaneously raising money for a good cause.”
The opening hours of the Reuse Shop at Hunters Lane are as follows:
Monday to Tuesday
Wednesday
Thursday to Sunday
10:00 – 16:00
CLOSED
10:00 – 16:00
Members of the public can contact the Reuse shop directly on 01788 567484 for guidance on how to donate.
Two similar charity re-use shops, which offer good quality second hand items also operate at the Burton Farm HWRC in Stratford and Princes Drive HWRC in Leamington Spa.
Steve Thomson, Director of Business Development at Age Concern Warwickshire, said: “Since the shop opened the support and enthusiasm from local people has been incredible, we have had some amazing donations that have been sold on to very grateful customers.
“Age Concern Warwickshire whole heartedly supports the reduction of waste going to landfill and sees this venture as a positive way the local community can contribute to this whilst raising money for a local cause.”
