Youth Offending Service recognised

Warwickshire County Council’s Youth Offending Team is celebrating a successful night at the West Midlands Employment Coalition Awards (WMEC).

They were nominated in three categories at the ceremony, which recognises the work to help people from different backgrounds back in to employment.

Jason picked up an award for ‘individual job seeker 25 years and under’. He was nominated for over-coming personal barriers to achieve full-time work. He excelled with his involvement in activities for young people like Tall Ships, conservation work and volunteering.

Anthony was highly commended for ‘individual job seeker 26 years and over’ - he was recognised for his work with young people within the Youth Offending Service.

He originally joined on work placement in admin and then trained to work with young people, increasing his skills in music, art and computers to the benefit of young people and the community in Warwickshire.

Finally, Sue Holland was recognised for her work with job seekers on placement over a number of years, which contributed to the Youth Offending Service being Highly Commended as a ‘Public Sector Employer’.

Heather Shilling, Operation’s Manager (interventions) for the Youth Offending Service, said: “I believe the recognition Anthony, Jason and Sue have had for their achievements helps to encourage others to play their part in maximising opportunities to realise their talents.

“The Youth Offending Service has benefited on many occasions from members of the community volunteering in a number of different ways and will continue to develop new ways of working.”

Cllr Izzi Seccombe, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children, Young People and Families, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for all involved and I congratulate them for their efforts.

“The recognition highlights some of the positive work carried out by the Youth Offending Team to the benefit of the whole community.”
