Hooray for parents!
Warwickshire will be celebrating National Parents’ Week from 20-26 October with a showcase of parenting and the varied work that takes place with families throughout the county.
Warwickshire County Council’s Family and Parenting Support Team have coordinated a range of activities and events throughout the week so they can listen to what parents and families think of their services. The events will also be used to help partners across the county celebrate good parental practice, ensuring that their work is recognised and valued and that issues affecting families today are kept at the top of the political agenda.
Events include, raising the awareness of the work in Children’s Centres across Nuneaton and Bedworth at George Eliot Maternity Hospital, a Family Ideas Tree at Stratford Children’s Centre, competitions for children and parents to design posters. In addition, the Health Visiting team at Coleshill Clinic will be consulting parents on the services that they use, and the Family Information Service are holding an awareness raising event in Warwick.
National Parents’ Week is now in its ninth year and offers a fantastic opportunity for practitioners to celebrate and evaluate work with families. More information about the event is available on the National Parenting Institute website http://www.familyandparenting.org/pw2008.
Warwickshire County Councillor Izzi Seccombe, Portfolio Holder for Children young People and Families said: “It’s great to see so much happening in the county to raise awareness of the support available for families.
“The Family and Parenting Support Team work closely with partners and families to find out what they need and want in terms of services to develop truly beneficial support and this week gives the opportunity to share some of the good work.”
