Firefighters urge you to switch it off!
Firefighters are urging residents to take part in this year’s ‘Switch it Off’ campaign in a bid to reduce the number of fires in homes across Warwickshire.
Last year there were 230 kitchen fires, 74 of which involved people leaving cooking unattended, 59 of which involved faults with tumble dryers, fridges, freezers, washing machines, spotlights and microwave ovens and 34 of which involved appliances overheating.
Watch Manager, Paul Morley said:
“As part of ‘Switch it Off’ we are encouraging all residents to make sure that they switch off their electrical appliances before they go to bed at night, this includes things like your TV, video and DVD player, washing machine, tumble dryer and toasters. Not only will this help to reduce your electricity bill, but it will also help to reduce the chances of having a fire in your home.”
Switching appliances off when you leave the house and when you go to bed play a key role in fire safety. For more information on fire safety or to find out more about our Free home fire safety checks log onto http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/fireandrescue
