MYP meets MP at joint surgery
Warwickshire Member of the Youth Parliament (MYP) Ben Wesson tomorrow becomes one of the first junior politicians ever to hold a surgery with a Member of Parliament.
Ben, aged 16 and from Warwick, is joining forces with MP James Plaskitt to speak to constituents at the Upper Mall of Leamington Spa’s Royal Priors shopping centre between 2pm and 4pm on Friday (October 31).
Supported by Warwickshire County Council’s Youth and Community Service, Ben will become one of the first MYPs in the country – and the first in the Midlands - to hold a surgery with one of his Parliamentary peers.
Ben, who attends the sixth form at North Leamington School, said: “The aim of this joint surgery is primarily to listen to the views, concerns and opinions of people from across Leamington and Warwick.
“I’m sure this surgery will prove beneficial to both myself as an MYP and to Mr Plaskitt as an MP. I hope that by holding this event we will be able to reach out to, and be accessible to our respective constituents.
“Personally, I hope this give me an insight into politics and the chance to speak to older generations of voters.”
Ben is one of four Warwickshire MYPs. During their term of office MYPs represent the views and interests of young people in their constituency, both locally and nationally, by meeting councillors, MPs and other decision makers to take forward issues of local importance.
