Birds of a feather flock to Nuneaton Care Home

Older residents of Caldwell Care Home in Nuneaton have been coming face to face with birds of prey and learning about their habits, and hunting techniques.

Caldwell Care Home, part of Warwickshire County Council’s service provision for older people in the Nuneaton area, has 27 residents, and meeting the birds of prey was a first for many at the home.

Nikki Cockayne, a professional Falconer who looks after the birds of prey at Moat Farm in Warwickshire brought a variety of birds to the residential home and answered questions from residents.  The residents also helped feed the birds.

Deb Adams, Care Officer, organised the activity which featured a Kestrel, a Falcon and a Barn Owl – called Shylock. She said:
“The residents love to take part in different activities and they loved to see and touch the birds. They like variety and really enjoyed meeting such amazing birds.”

Heddi Bosworth, one of the residents said, “Shylock the Barn Owl was my favourite. They are all beautiful birds.”
