First birthday for specialist support team
A specialist team of Home Care workers is celebrating its first birthday supporting people with dementia in Stratford, Henley and Wellesbourne.
The Stratford Home Care Dementia Team, part of Warwickshire County Council’s Home Care Service, was set up 12 months ago to enable people over 65 with a clinical diagnosis of dementia to remain living independently in their own homes.
Feed back from people using the service and their families has been extremely positive, with one relative saying that with the support of the service their mum ‘would no longer be able to live independently in her own home’
Houria Burrows, Home Carer said:
“It’s a fantastic service, we have time to get to know people and develop relationships which is so important. There is lots of variety, we support people to go shopping, attend appointments, go fishing, and we even supported one gentleman to attend a cricket match.”
The Dementia Team work in partnership with local Social Workers, and Dawn Bluck, Warwickshire County Council’s Stratford Home Care Manager says that this had proved very successful.
"Eight Home Care staff received specialist training in dementia which enabled them to develop a more holistic approach to service delivery. The service provided is flexible so that we can respond to individual needs and work together with other support agencies."
