Hospice funds boost
A Warwickshire County Council worker has raised more than £1,000 for the Myton Hospice through his efforts in the gruelling Great North Run.
Simon Hill, who works in ICT for the county council, had no computer to help his cause when he took on last month’s Great North Run.
And as well as completing the run in a respectable time of 2hr 19min, he also raised £1,060 for the hospice.
ICT Business Liaison Manager Simon Hill said: “I was delighted to complete the Great North Run in aid of such a worthwhile charity. Cancer is a disease that has probably touched all our lives in some way and Myton Hospice deserve every penny for the fantastic work they do.”
The total amount handed over to the hospice was then pushed up to almost £1,300 thanks to a second-hand book sale, held at Warwickshire County Council’s Shire Hall offices in Warwick, which increased the total by a further £258.
And the fundraising in the county council did not stop there with managers in the county council’s Resources Directorate taking part in a sponsored weight loss over the summer months. Staff paid £1 to guess the total weight lost by all four participating managers. The total amount lost by the managers was 2st 0.5lb, with Resources head man Director Dave Clarke notching up the greatest weight loss of 1st 4.5lb. The £276 raised was donated to Cancer Research.
Finally, a cake sale and dress down event, held on Friday, 24 October, in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness, saw staff donate a further £237.
