Double Celebration for Warwickshire Care Home
A Warwickshire care home seems to offer just the right ingredients for a pleasant stay after it clinched a gold award for food hygiene standards and completed the redecoration of its Dementia Unit.
A team of staff, at Low Furlong in Shipston-on-Stour, spent the summer looking at ways to improve standards in the kitchen and together with some redecoration and the purchase of new equipment the project has proved a great success.
The golden award means that Low Furlong has demonstrated excellent standards of hygiene, safety, cleanliness and good kitchen management.
Chef Chris Furby, was quick to compliment everyone who had contributed to the improvements in the kitchen and helping to secure the high standards of food hygiene. He said:
“We’ve all worked hard and it’s a great achievement.”
Elsewhere in the home part of the Dementia Unit has also just been revamped after receiving funding from Warwickshire County Council and local charity The League of Friends.
The Dementia Unit opened two years ago and accommodates ten residents. The Council funded the redecoration and non-slip wood flooring, and a gallery of new pictures which provide important therapeutic benefits for the residents was funded by the local charity.
Denise Rawlings, Manager of Low Furlong, joined the home in January. She said the improvements are excellent and will benefit the residents:
“The gold award reflects the standards we are trying to achieve in the Home and the redecoration of the corridor has lifted the mood of the Unit – it gives a lovely bright atmosphere for people to live and work in.”
“With the continued support of The League of Friends we hope to renovate the garden area in the New Year.” added Denise.
Warwickshire County Council’s Public Protection Officers co-ordinate the Food Standards Scheme. The Shipston-on-Stour based charity League of Friends was set up in 1973 and supports the local hospital as well as Low Furlong Care Home.
