Get Creative for Anti-bullying Week

Children and young people across Warwickshire are being encouraged to get creative and take part in this year’s anti-bullying week (17 to 21 November 2008).

Children up to the age of 11 are being asked to design a T shirt with an anti-bullying theme. The winner will get a big art set and a T shirt with their design printed on it.  The winning design will also be worn by senior County Council officers in a photo-shoot in December.  The design can include words or pictures or both.

Meanwhile young people (11 to 19-years-old) are being asked to design an anti-bullying poster, with the winning design printed and circulated to schools and youth settings across the county and used in plasma screen displays in some schools.

Young people can be as creative as they like but the posters must include the following information:

* To get help with bullying
* Talk to an adult you know
* Text 2 Talk 07786 200999 (standard text charges apply)
* Email bullying@warwickshire.gov.uk
* Go to http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/bullying
* Ring CHILDLINE 0800 1111

All entries received will be displayed on http://www.wpthezone.co.uk and the winners will be selected by the County Youth Panel.

Cllr Izzi Seccombe, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children, Young People and Families, said: “I know this is a really important issue for young people in the County, it was clearly brought home to the Cabinet of the County Council only last week when a presentation made by the Members of the County Youth Parliament identified this as a priority for them…”

The closing date for entries is Wednesday 26 November. For further information about prizes and how to enter the competition, visit http://www.wpthezone.co.uk.
